Beautiful and well informed UA-cam video I came 😊
My wife and I were booked on the Ghan (platinum sleeper) in late May. 4 days before we were due to head off, her father died. Now, I get that their terms say that cancelling at such short notice means no refund, I really do. But I would have expected a halfway decent company to offer some sort of token partial credit for a future trip. Just as a gesture of good faith. But no. Beyond are beyond belief. Not only will I never travel with them, I will - and am - telling everyone I know this story.
"I got intermittent sleep because of the the ambient light, the noises, and so on..." Ear plugs and eye mask! Every traveller should have 🙂👍
Put them in, put it on...all your troubles are all gone!😂😂😂
Compliments on your music choices on this video, Adam. Has a joyful, nostalgic mood that pulls the viewer into your passion for these trains and their journeys.
The thing just turned right and crashed
HI SIR I AM 'LAV JI JHINGRAN' FROM INDIA. I AM SPEECHLESS TO SEE SUCH FANTASTIC VIDEO EVER IN MY LIFE. I NEVER GO OUTSIDE INDIA. IT'S MY DREAM TO VISIT HERE. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER IT WILL COME TRUE OR NOT. BUT SIR, WILL PRAY TO GOD FOR MY DREAM. MY BEST WISHES WITH YOU FOR YOUR CHANNEL.
Thank you so much! I hope you’re able to visit New Zealand one day to see the beauty. 😊
Your train is too short comparing to Indian trains. Nice video from India
Yes, they are rather short. Thanks for watching!
So i can go 11,000 miles and eat a bacan and egg roll on an HST 125! Brilliant 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Great video again thanks Adam! Speaking of sheep stations, ave you ever played Squatter?
Thank you! I haven’t played Squatter. Any good?
The constant annoying music is unnecessary. Otherwise, a very well made video. The VLINE fares are WAY LESS than half the Journey Beyond fares. . . . at TEN DOLLARS to places such as Horsham, for example. I was shocked that some seats face a BLANK WALL, or almost do. . . . . instead of being lined up with the windows. When I use the OVERLAAND on the 1st of November, from Horsham to Murray Bridge, I will spend a lot of time in the Lounge car., where one can relax and enjoy the views.
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, VLine has unbeatable fares. Unfortunately there are a few drawbacks with the Overland carriages. Would be great to see new rolling stock but unfortunately can’t see this happening anytime soon.
@@FromtheWindowSeat My concept is a rain based on VELOSITY bu of five cars on SG operate Daily, Adelaide Ararat. An identical BG train Melbourne Ararat, a cross platform change in Araa. Saving at least TWO HOURS over ge current train service. Did you notice the squeak squeak of the OVERLAND? VERY annoying.
I'm in favour of train travel, but will NEVER use that train between Canberra and Sydney again. The ride quality was utterly awfu along with noise. Murrays bus or a flight next time.
Fair enough. Hopefully the new regional trains are much better.
I would like to book about three months in advance, can I request a window seat, when booking? My trip will be from Horsham to Murray Bridge.
I think you might need to contact Journey Beyond Rail once you’ve booked with your booking number and put the request in with them.
I am Australian. I did this train trip twelve months ago. This is a good documentary and the train trip is a fantastic experience. The train carriages are certainly lot luxury quality which is disappointing same as the Ghan train which I did three months ago.
Thank you! I guess it’s relative. For Australia, they’re relatively luxurious but probably worldwide, not so much.
I wanted to take my late husband on this trip as it was on his bucket list when he was diagnosed with cancer but he passed away quicker than expected so it didn't happen would still love to do it maybe one day
I’m sorry to hear that. Hope you get to travel on the Indian Pacific one day in the not too distant future. 🤞 All the best!
Thank you. Great video. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it!
Only One Thing I Have to Say Travel to the Outback With the Indian Pacific Train and Great Southern Train and For Freight Pacific National freight train And SCT/SBR/CFCLA
Cheers!
Thank you for sharing the beauty of New Zealand and the journey with us.I feel like I have been on holiday to NZ through watching this!Great commentary.
That’s wonderful to hear. Thank you!
Thankyou for a beautiful video mate, outlining everything that i needed to know for a possible trip on the IP. I could watch many more travel vids of yours as you are very soothing and grab my attention in a nice way, thanks again.😊
I’m really happy to hear that. Thank you!
Did it a few times in the 1970s Also drove as well when parts were unsealed! Vast distances
Nice!
it is always a bit strange that these sleeper trains just neglect to add wifi, i mean its 2024 and these trips take days at a time people are gonna want some internet connectivity
There is limited WiFi but it’s dependent on the mobile network (which is limited in remote locations). There’s also something to be said for tuning out from wider world and really immersing yourself in the here and now (with no distractions from technology).
Christ...it's like a mobile old people's home
Essentially these trains are very popular with retirees. That’s partly because of the high cost.
Not very often do you mention anything about facilities for disabled people.
Apologies. Will try to consider that in future videos.
Almost reaching your destination... ....again!
It’s a habit! 😝
Nothing like _almost_ reaching your destination.
Yes, I love almost reaching a destination. 😂😂😂
fantasic video, you much have been the youngest person by at least 40 years?
There was a handful of younger guests but not in my footage. The average age of the crew is also quite young.
I live in Japan and I endorse this video! Japan is a train lovers paradise. Regarding not talking in the seating area of train carriages, I don't think there is no strict rule. In all the trains I've been on, you can talk quietly in the seating area. The Japanese are naturally quiet, so there is no need for a dedicated quiet carriage. As far as I know, there are no longer smoking areas on trains. I haven't seen any. I didn't know that the English announcer I hear is the person on the Piccadilly Line. Amazing!
Thank you! I guess it’s not a strict rule as you say, more something that’s discouraged.
you got reimbursed for missing out on 1 off train excursion when i went on the IP we missed out on 3 off train excursions, got delayed at cook for 8 hours and we had to get a coach from another station to go into Sydney that was 5 hours away making us miss out on half a day on the train and we got given no reimbursement.
Sorry to hear that - very disappointing.
Queen Adelaide restaurant just looks so much nicer than the Platinum one, I'd definitely go Gold to ensure I got the Queen Adelaide. Which direction do you find is better to sleep either parallel with the train like on your Indian Pacific run or perpendicular like on this trip on the Ghan? I'd probably take sea sickness/motion sickness meds that have drowsiness potential to help me sleep as well particularly on first night and maybe the 2nd as well.
I think I prefer to be parallel but there’s not a huge difference that I’ve noticed. Thanks for watching!
This is so amazing
Thank you!
Awesome video
Thanks so much!
HOT
Cheers!
Na das sieht ja stinklangweilig aus...
To each their own. 💅
Great video, Do you know what the name of the song is which was used in your video?
Thank you! There’s actually five different tracks, all from the UA-cam Audio Library. If you look at the description of my video and scroll down, UA-cam should show you the five songs, which you can click on to hear.
4:26 operated by ptv?!
That’s a Google error … I think it’s just that the timetable data came from PTV. 🤔
this isn’t from a window seat it’s from a bridge or somethjng
True. From a drone.
yeah
Crazy this train manages to be this big and fast on 3' 6" track!
Ha! Trusty narrow gauge. 🤣
A very, very good video - I learnt a lot - Many thanks !
Great to hear. Thank you!
Great detailed video I really think Australia needs more trains.
Thank you. Agreed!
From stop a to stop a lol
Lol
I just love the stark beauty of the southern alps
Yes, they’re stunning.
No Bullet trains in Australia 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sadly not. 😢
If only we saw more regional trains in WA other than the current two 😕
Yes, that would be great. Although you still have it better than where I live, South Australia, where there are none. 😔
The old 90s Prospector was sop slow. 10 hours
True.
One of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited. I enjoyed it so much I went back 18 months later. Hideous length flights from the UK tho! My trips were a long time before Adam's great video, trains were a lot older! The open air cars are fantastic. Scenery just spectalur
It certainly is a stunning place! Glad you enjoyed the video. 😊
Fabulous experience of a l8fetime - especially if you LOVE trains and train travel. Have done it both ways, Sydney to Perth and Perth to Sydney. What you miss in the night one direction, you catch in the daytime returning to Sydney. Recommend you ONLY take the top grade premium class cabins. Three and a half days on a train - you really do appreciate the total privacy of your cabin, all the extra space, service and comfort - and especially - your very own fully equipped ensuite bathroom and toilet. Worth tbe higher $$$$$.
Sounds great! Keen to try platinum one day … as well as travelling Perth to Sydney. 🤔
Greatly enjoyed this video. All Aussies should watch it.
Thanks so much! ☺️
Thank you for taking us on this wonderful journey. I'll be retiring to the Philippines in 5 years and then we'll be making our first vacation to Australia. But I think it will be a road tip. Again thank you very much. Peter from germany.
Thank you Peter - so good to hear that.
What a lovely trip. My mum always talks about visiting her aunty in the Otira Tea rooms.
It certainly is. Yes, it’s a pity they’re not open anymore.
It's very enjoyable. I felt as though I had been there.
Great to hear. Thanks for watching!
Even if only 1% of people travel to canberra, the trains still have so many customers! I wasn't able to book a trip recently because it was fully booked😂
Good to know! Another reason, to improve the service.
